CNN, like much of the mainstream media, was distraught over Donald Trump’s appointment of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to the role of Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Leftist media outlets have largely focused on the fact that Kennedy is skeptical over the effectiveness of vaccines, rather than his developed understanding of health issues facing the country.
The appointment prompted debate on Thursday’s edition of Newsnight, with commentator Geoff Duncan arguing there was “no good reason” for the former Democrat to hold the role.
“There’s no managerial experience in his resume; nothing that says he is qualified to do this job,” Duncan said.
Conservative commentator Scott Jennings questioned this thought process, asking what management qualifications Kennedy’s predecessors possessed when they were appointed to the role. As Jennings listed off previous HHS Secretaries’ qualifications, or lack thereof, Duncan interrupted, “Because RFK Jr. is a nut.”
“That’s different to what you just said,” Jennings replied, “You just said he doesn’t possess the requisite managerial experience, but then we get to the real issue here, which is you want to insult the man.”
Jennings then went on to argue that public trust in the health authorities was “as low as it’s ever been,” leading fellow commentator John Avion to ask, “But why?”
“Because of COVID! Because of school closures. Because of mask mandates,” Jennings answered. “Because this country was drugged through a bunch of condescending and heavy-handed mandates that all turned out to be garbage. And that’s why it’s low and the questions are valid.”
There was widespread praise for Jennings when the clip went viral.
There was also a lot of support for RFK Jr.
