Michigan is ditching work requirements for able-bodied adults receiving Medicaid under legislation signed into law by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer last week. The legislation, approved along party lines during Democrats’ lame duck session last year, repeals a requirement for able-bodied adults receiving Medicaid under the Healthy Michigan Plan to complete 20 hours of “workforce engagement” per week, effective April 2.
“The repeal of the burdensome work requirements provision is a win for Michiganders who cannot afford commercial health insurance,” bill sponsor Rep. Julie Rogers, D-Kalamazoo, said in a statement cited by the news outlet. “Medicaid is health care, period, and was never intended to be a jobs program.”
Republicans adopted the work requirement in 2018, but it was halted by a federal court within months. A federal judge ruled the requirement unlawful in 2020, despite exemptions for single parents taking care of children, pregnant mothers, people with disabilities, and others caring for young children or who have a medical condition. Beyond actual work, beneficiaries were able to fulfill the requirement with education, training, unpaid internships, substance use disorder treatment, and community service, as well.
A township board meeting in Thornton Township erupted into chaos Tuesday night when Mayor and Supervisor Tiffany Henyard became involved in a physical altercation following a heated exchange between her boyfriend and a local activist.
The confrontation began during the public comment session when activist Jedidiah Brown, speaking at the microphone, directed harsh criticism at Henyard, calling her a “half-a–ed mayor” and accusing her of “sleeping her way to the top” while praising newly appointed trustee Stephanie Wiedeman.
🚨BREAKING NEWS: Dolton mayor Tiffany Henyard and her boyfriend JUMPS on activist Jedidiah Brown and critics! Tiffany Henyard wig fell off. This is wild and will end in arrests and lawsuits. WOW! pic.twitter.com/5if14Ye6U4
“You gone, bitch,” Brown said, according to CBS News.
Seated in the back of the meeting room, Henyard’s boyfriend, Kamal Woods, confronted Brown after the comments.
The two exchanged punches, and the altercation quickly escalated as other allies of Henyard joined in.
Video footage captured Henyard leaving her seat at the front of the room and moving directly into the fight.
It remains unclear whether she was attempting to break up the altercation or actively participating in it.
“I have never seen a politician jump in and fight like that—it was scary and horrible. It is an embarrassment,” eyewitness Meghan Dudek told NBC Chicago.
Security personnel inside the building attempted to separate the individuals involved, but the brawl escalated with participants throwing punches, kicking each other, and even jumping on tables.
At one point, Henyard was thrown to the ground and lost a shoe amid the commotion.
“It should have never come to blows, and Tiffany should have never got involved,” another eyewitness, Gerald Williams, told NBC Chicago.
Following the altercation, Brown took to Facebook, claiming the fight was a “preplanned set up” and alleging that Henyard and her allies had previously insulted him.
“Let’s be clear here, I was fighting them all,” Brown wrote.
“Kamal grabbed my jacket in beginning which is why my head was down but I powered through and was over him. I still popped every single one of them including Tiffany who hit me first before being picked up like a toddler and having to fight security in the back room by elevator.”
The fight broke out during an already tense meeting where Henyard’s boyfriend, Kamal Woods, was a key focus of discussion.
Woods, along with William Moore, oversees the township’s at-risk youth program.
The board voted to place both men on paid administrative leave while launching an independent investigation and forensic audit into the handling of grant money and township funds for the youth program and outreach department, NBC Chicago reported.
Henyard denounced the move as “political retaliation” and threatened legal action in response.
It is unclear if anyone was injured in the altercation.
Brown was removed from the premises by police, but no arrests were made, according to ABC 7 Chicago.
Following the incident, police ordered everyone out of the building, and the meeting was never formally adjourned.
Henyard’s attorney is reportedly preparing a statement, according to the outlet.
The brawl occurred just days after Henyard was found in contempt of court for allegedly delaying liquor license approvals for months.
St. Patrick’s, a three-story restaurant, filed a lawsuit in August accusing Henyard of refusing to sign liquor licenses that had already been approved by the village board.
Under the threat of contempt, she ultimately signed two of the three licenses last week, but only after showing up 30 minutes late to her court appearance.
Henyard, who refers to herself as the “super mayor,” recently lost the Democratic nomination for Thornton Township supervisor.
She has vowed to fight back, claiming “voter suppression” was involved in her defeat.
The South Holland Police Department and Thornton Township’s office have not yet commented on the incident.
Former CNN editor-at-large, Chris Cillizza, admitted he made significant mistakes in assessing Anthony Fauci’s credibility during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cillizza acknowledged he was wrong, dismissing President Donald Trump and others who questioned Fauci’s narrative.
The reporter even confessed that his trust in Fauci’s and Trump’s bias led him to overlook alternative perspectives.
2/ Here's a CIA spokesperson:
"CIA assesses with low confidence that a research-related origin of the COVID-19 pandemic is more likely than a natural origin based on the available body of reporting"
“If this was a debate between Donald Trump and Anthony Fauci on the origins of a pandemic-level virus, I was going to go with the guy who spent his entire career studying this stuff, not the reality TV-star-turned-president,” Cillizza wrote.
As evidence supports the lab-leak theory, something which Trump and many conservatives said from the beginning, Cillizza admitted he was wrong.
“The lesson: Be skeptical — of experts or anyone else — when dealing with a rapidly developing and changing situation where no one has the ability to see a 360-degree view,” he added.
Fauci is quickly becoming less credible in the mainstream due to his shifting guidance, missteps, and inconsistencies in his messaging.
President Trump revoked Fauci’s federal security detail last week, justifying the s decision by saying that former officials should not rely indefinitely on government-funded security
This came days after Joe Biden issued preemptive pardons to Fauci and others.
Cillizza then went on to criticize himself for clouding his judgment.
“My belief at the time was that Trump was just making it up. Like, he wanted to blame China for the virus. And it having leaked from an infectious disease lab — whether accidentally or intentionally — made that case much easier to make,” he admitted.
“Do I think that’s what happened?” he asked.
“That Trump knew — like, really knew — way back then that Covid had come from a lab? Or was he just saying stuff — and that stuff wound up being proven correct in the long run? Honestly, I am not sure we will ever know.”
“It never entered my mind that, as president, it was possible that Trump had been privy to information not publicly available on the virus,” Cillizza wrote.
Cillizza concluded: “Just because Trump talks out of his ass a fair amount doesn’t mean everything he says is him talking out of his ass. Don’t disqualify the possibility of Trump telling the truth solely because he is a decidedly inconsistent messenger when it comes to truth.”
MSNBC host Joy Reid made a surprising interpretation of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) this week, claiming it was not about race, gender, or identity politics but about supporting disabled veterans.
Who knew?
During a discussion with her guest, Everett Kelley, National President of the American Federation of Government Employees, both criticized President Donald Trump‘s executive order to shut down DEI offices across federal agencies.
MSNBC's Joy Reid says Americans have got DEI all wrong.
You see, it's not about giving unqualified people positions they didn't earn because they were born with characteristics that have nothing to do with the job.
Reid began by referring to the order and asking Kelley how his union would respond.
“This memo, we can put it up on screen, and it went to all heads and acting heads of departments and agencies, shuttering DEI offices and other things. What is the union’s response going to be?” Reid asked.
Kelley argued that the public misconceptions about DEI need to be corrected. “We have an obligation to educate the public as to what DEI really is because, number one, it’s not affirmative action as some might think,” Kelley stated.
He then framed DEI as a program that accommodates disabled veterans in federal jobs.
You heard that right.
“DEI is about making sure that, say, a veteran may have a handicap, an injury from the services, and come to work for the federal government,” Kelley said. “DEI would make sure that that veteran has the, I guess, I would say the opportunity to work in a job, and they were placed in a position where they could accommodate that veteran and so that they can do their job.”
Kelley then insisted that DEI has been misunderstood as a program focused on racial or gender quotas. “It’s not about the color of a person’s skin. It’s about disabled veterans being accommodated,” he added.
Reid chimed in, dismissing the idea that DEI is a racial or gender-based initiative. “And it’s not a quota program. Let’s just be clear. They believe DEI just means black people getting jobs, and so when they see a black person in any job, they say, ‘Oh, that person’s a DEI hire.’”
Reid also pulled out the race card to target anyone daring to question Vice President Kamala Harris’s qualifications.
However, then-candidate Joe Biden openly admitted that choosing a female running mate was a result of mounting pressure from within the Democratic Party for him to select a black woman.
Reid and Kelley’s claim that DEI is a patriotic program for disabled veterans flies against the reality that it is actually about gender equity and LGBTQ+ inclusion.
It appears they are trying to repackage DEI for it to survive under Trump’s presidency.
Regardless of their attempts to re-market DEI, Trump moves forward with his plans to eliminate it from federal agencies.
Target’s revocation of DEI policies has prompted calls for a boycott from a number of left-wing figures including a Minneapolis City Council member where the retailer is headquartered.
Interestingly enough, Target practically pioneered the corporate DEI trend in 2016 when they backed a transgender bathroom policy, and ignored conservative groups who suggested they add a gender neutral/single stall bathroom to their stores (which many already had) instead of allowing grown men in the women’s room.
On Friday, Jan. 24, the retailer announced it would scaling back many of its DEI policies. In a statement, Target announced a conclusion to “three-year diversity, equity and inclusion goals” as well as the “Racial Equity Action and Change initiatives” as previously announced.
Furthermore, it removed wokeism from employee resource groups while also pledging to cease participation in diversity-focused surveys such as the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index.
Anti-DEI crusader Robby Starbuck also shared the news, which follows his efforts as part of what is now a monumental campaign to remove DEI policies at companies such as Tractor Supply, Harley-Davidson, Caterpillar, Toyota, and Boeing, – all of which have withdrawn from the Corporate Equality Index. Some, like John Deere, Lowe’s, and Ford, have also withdrawn sponsorship of Pride events, while others such as Molson Coors and Walmart have removed diversity quotas for suppliers.
MASSIVE news: Target is ending many of their woke policies. I can now exclusively tell you what’s changing and how it happened.
Recently executives @Target found out I was doing a story on wokeness there. When we learned they were prepared to make changes, we shifted our focus… pic.twitter.com/4R7tGIn5Fk
However, the death of DEI at Target has prompted a boycott from the leftist organization “Strike for All,” who announced a boycott commencing Saturday, Feb. 1.
Yesterday, @Target announced it was cutting their diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, including a program that focused on carrying products from Black & other minority-owned companies.
Target’s DEI revocation also caught the attention of Minneapolis City Council member Jason Chavez. He said, “It’s disappointing that Target Corporation, based in Minneapolis, decided to roll back and ultimately conclude its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. I urge everyone to consider supporting small businesses and family-owned grocery stores in our community instead.”

A Lenawee County Democrat who posted an unhinged rant denying the 2024 election results and labeling immigration officials as “Nazi collaborators” is doubling down. Lenawee County Democratic Party Chairman Bill Swift called in to Talk Back Radio with Doug Spade and Mike Clement on Saturday to discuss the post, which was deleted from the party’s Facebook page shortly after it was posted last week. Swift on Saturday also called for the death penalty for the president’s supporters.
Swift alleged the party removed the post over concerns supporters of President Donald Trump “might do violence to people in our community,” but made it clear “we as a party and I as an individual absolutely 100% support the statements that we made.” He described the post as “outlining a very rational argument” about Trump’s inauguration and the president’s immediate move to crack down on illegal immigration. Swift alleged Trump-supporter and the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, “performed two Hitler salutes, two Nazi salutes” during the Jan. 20 inauguration.
Swift then extrapolated that to build an argument that Trump and those who support him are Nazis, pointing to Trump’s social media missteps during his campaign and alleged “Nazi imagery and Nazi language” at conservative events. He concluded his comments by highlighting another recent post by the Lenawee County Democrats that calls for the death penalty for Trump’s supporters. “They should be arrested, and they should be facing the death penalty,” he said. “They should be hanged by the neck until dead. I believe this is one of the few areas of the law where I believe the death penalty should be imposed.”

South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham said he believes President Donald Trump’s decision to pardon and release the January 6 hostages was a “mistake.”
During an appearance on NBC, the RINO Senator told Kirsten Welker that the January 6 victims were no better than the Black Lives Matter rioters, who burned down cities across the United States.
Those who protested the legitimacy of the 2020 election lost everything after being thrown in jail as Democrats rushed to frame Trump with a fake narrative that he incited a riot.
However, the media ignored that Trump told protestors to march “peacefully and patriotically” to the Capitol.
Welker asked Graham, “Let’s turn now to President Trump’s decision to pardon, to give blanket pardons to, everyone who was convicted of crimes on January 6, including the 172 people who pleaded guilty to assaulting law enforcement officers. Even his own Vice President said, “If you committed violence on that day, obviously you shouldn’t be pardoned.” Do you believe President Trump was wrong to issue these blanket pardons to the January 6 defendants?”
Graham responded: “Number one, he had the legal authority to do it, but I fear that you will get more violence. Pardoning the people who went into the Capitol and beat up a police officer violently, I think, was a mistake because it seems to suggest that’s an okay thing to do.”
“Kamala Harris wanted to raise bail money for people burning down Minneapolis. You know, Biden pardoned half his family going out the door. I think most Americans, if this continues, to see this as an abuse of the pardon power, that we’ll revisit the pardon power of the president if this continues, but as to pardoning violent people who beat up cops, I think that’s a mistake,” he said.

Welker asked, “So, you think it was a mistake of President Trump to issue these blanket pardons? What message does it convey to law enforcement?”
Graham responded: “There’s really been no better supporter of law enforcement in general, and there are a lot of people who supported President Trump in law enforcement who didn’t like this.”
“But he said it during the campaign. He’s not tricking people. You know, Biden promised not to pardon his family.”
“He did. Trump said I’m gonna pardon these people. So, the fact that he did it is no surprise, but I’ll be consistent here,” he added.
“I don’t like the idea of bailing people out of jail or pardoning people who burned down cities and beat up cops whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat.”
J.D. Vance owned broadcaster Margaret Brennan in an interview with CBS News on Sunday, Jan. 26.
Appearing on “Face the Nation” in his first sit-down interview as Vice President, Vance discussed the issue of vetting refugees to the United States. He expressed doubt that a thorough screening process had taken place for all refugees, adding that his “primary concern is to look after the American people” as Vice President.
“Now that we know that we have vetting problems with a lot of these refugee programs, we absolutely cannot unleash thousands of unvetted people into our country,” he said.
Brennan interjected, arguing that “these people are vetted”.
However, an undeterred Vance struck back, and said, “Just like the guy who planned a terrorist attack in Oklahoma a few months ago? He was allegedly properly vetted, and many people in the media and the Democratic Party said that he was properly vetted. Clearly, he wasn’t.”
As the Brennan tried to interrupt once again, Vance continued, “I don’t want my children to share a neighborhood with people who are not properly vetted, and because I don’t want it for my kids, I’m not going to force any other American citizens kids’ to do that either.”
The CBS broadcaster argued that the Afghan national arrested for conspiring to conduct an Election Day terrorist attack on behalf of ISIS was “a very particular case,” adding, “It wasn’t clear if he was radicalized when he got here or while he was living here.”
“I don’t really care, Margaret,” responded Vance, “I don’t want that person in my country, and I think most Americans agree with me.”
NEW: JD Vance continuously shuts down CBS News’ Margaret Brennan after she kept arguing in favor of illegal immigration.
I could watch this all day.
Vance: We absolutely cannot unleash thousands of unvetted people into our country.
A Republican congressman has introduced a proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution that could pave the way for former President Donald Trump to potentially serve a third term in the White House.
Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN) announced the amendment, stating it would allow a two-term president to serve a third term if the terms were non-consecutive.
🚨 JUST IN: Congressman Andy Ogles (R-TN) is proposing a constitutional amendment to allow President Trump to seek a third term.
Ogles argued the change is necessary to ensure the country can benefit from what he called “bold leadership” during times of crisis.
“President Trump’s decisive leadership stands in stark contrast to the chaos, suffering, and economic decline Americans have endured over the past four years,” Ogles said in a statement on Thursday.
“He has proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness, and he must be given the time necessary to accomplish that goal.”
The proposed amendment reads:
“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”
NEW: Rep. Andy Ogles proposes amending the 22nd Amendment to allow President Trump to serve a third term in office.
A Trump vs. Obama matchup sounds lit.
Ogles has introduced a House Joint Resolution to amend the Constitution to allow a president to be elected for no more than… pic.twitter.com/wwCAfMePf4
The amendment would create a legal framework to allow a president to serve a third term under certain conditions.
If passed, it would add to the historical precedent of non-consecutive presidencies, a distinction currently held only by President Grover Cleveland, who served as both the 22nd and 24th President of the United States.
The 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951, currently limits presidents to two terms.
This was established after Franklin Delano Roosevelt served an unprecedented four terms, setting a new precedent for presidential term limits.
While the proposed amendment aligns with Rep. Ogles’ vision for Trump’s leadership, Trump himself has often joked about the idea of a third term.
His remarks, frequently made in jest, have nonetheless drawn strong reactions from his critics.
One of Trump’s notable posts on his Truth Social platform included a meme depicting campaign signs for “Trump 2024, Trump 2028, Trump 2032,” eventually expanding into far-off centuries.
The post was widely circulated and sparked debate across political circles.
Following his victory in the 2024 election, Trump joked during a meeting with Republican lawmakers about the prospect of another term. “I suspect I won’t be running again, unless you do something,” he said. “Unless you say, ‘He’s so good, we have to just figure it out.’”
Republican lawmakers who attended the meeting clarified that the comments were made in jest.
“That was a joke. It was clearly a joke,” said Rep. Tim Burchett (R-OK). Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) reportedly echoed the sentiment, predicting media outlets would mischaracterize the president’s comments as serious.
Despite the proposed amendment and his occasional jokes, Trump has stated that he does not plan to pursue a third term.
“I wouldn’t be in favor of a challenge. Not for me. I wouldn’t be in favor of it at all,” Trump told Time magazine in a prior interview.
“I intend to serve four years and do a great job. And I want to bring our country back. I want to put it back on the right track.”
While the amendment faces significant legal and political hurdles, it underscores the continued influence of Trump’s presidency and the strong support he maintains among Republican lawmakers and voters.
Donald Trump currently maintains a favorable rating among voters in the deep blue state of New Jersey.
The Garden State has favored Democrats for almost four decades, having last voted in favor of a Republican in 1988. Trump is no exception, having only amassed around 41% of the vote in 2016 and 2020.
However, last year’s election proved to be his best yet in New Jersey, amassing 46% of the vote compared to Kamala Harris’ 52% – a surprisingly strong result meaning the election was actually closer in New Jersey than the swing state of Arizona.
Now, a new Emerson College poll now reveals a surge in favorability for the President – 48% of the polls respondents said they had a favorable view of Trump, compared to 46% who did not, for a net +2 favorable rating, something thought nearly impossible even weeks ago. A further 6% of voters had a neutral view of the President.
🚨 BREAKING: Trump has +2 favorable rating in New Jersey, 48%-46% – Emerson poll
The poll comes amid a historically productive first week for Trump, signing executive orders declaring a national emergency at the border with Mexico, reinstating the Remain in Mexico policy, ending birthright citizenship, ending DEI, withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord, making the U.S. officially only recognize two sexes, and literally hundreds more.
Many were upbeat by the President’s surge in the traditionally pro-Democrat state.
This is really hopeful! I really would like to see some IL counties get incorporated into IN and get the IN electorate up a little higher too. There is a possibility of that!
