A Memphis child publicly thanked President Donald Trump for deploying the National Guard to his city, saying the troops’ presence has made his neighborhood peaceful and safe enough for him to play outside again, as reported by The Western Journal.

The child, identified as Braylon, appeared in a TikTok video uploaded by his mother on Thursday. In the video, he described how life in Memphis has changed since National Guard troops arrived earlier this month to address the city’s escalating crime problem.

“My name is Braylon and I live here in Memphis. I’ve been noticing not just a slight change, more of a detrimental change of how peaceful Memphis is ever since the National Guard came,” he said.

“There were a lot of things that I couldn’t do before the National Guard came because I had to worry about guns and stuff. I couldn’t play because I was worried that somebody might pull out a gun or something. But now I can do that. And I just wanted to thank the President of the United States for bringing the National Guard here.”

National Guard troops were deployed to Memphis on Oct. 10 as part of a federal initiative to curb violent crime. The Memphis Safe Task Force reported that as of Thursday, the combined effort has resulted in 978 arrests and the seizure of 197 illegal firearms.

According to FBI data cited by Stateline, Memphis recorded the highest violent crime rate among all major U.S. cities in 2024, with 2,501 incidents per 100,000 residents.

Despite these statistics, Democratic Memphis Mayor Paul Young told CNN he was “certainly not happy” about the National Guard deployment.

The deployment to Memphis followed similar federal efforts in Washington, D.C., where National Guard troops were sent in August. Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed Tuesday that the D.C. operation has led to more than 4,000 arrests and over 400 firearm seizures.

A Dallas man was arrested this week after posting a TikTok video offering bounties for the murders of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, federal prosecutors and Homeland Security officials said.

Federal authorities identified the suspect as 23-year-old Eduardo Aguilar, a Mexican national residing in Dallas.

Aguilar was charged by federal complaint for transmitting in interstate or foreign commerce a communication containing a threat, stemming from a TikTok post on Oct. 9, 2025, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas said Thursday.

According to court records cited by prosecutors, Aguilar’s TikTok post contained Spanish-language text that translated to: “I need 10 dudes in Dallas with determination (guts) who aren’t afraid to [two skull emojis].”

Prosecutors say the skull emojis are commonly used to signify the word “die.” A second line of text in the post, shown in red and white, stated, “10K for each ICE agent,” the complaint says.

Homeland Security posted on X that Aguilar “offered $10,000 bounties on TikTok for the murder of our brave ICE agents” and confirmed the arrest in Dallas. The message added that Aguilar had been in possession of a firearm and noted, “We are thankful this criminal who had a firearm in his possession was arrested before he could kill one of our law enforcement officers.”

Aguilar appeared in federal court on Wednesday and was ordered detained in federal custody pending further proceedings, officials said.

He faces a statutory maximum penalty of five years in federal prison if convicted on the charge of transmitting a threat in interstate or foreign commerce.

“Threats against our law enforcement officers are completely unacceptable,” Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy E. Larson said in the Northern District of Texas statement.

“All threats against our agents and officers will be investigated thoroughly, and anyone who threatens or puts a bounty on agents will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent possible,” Larson added.

The arrest follows an investigation by Homeland Security and other federal law enforcement agencies into the social-media post.

Prosecutors said the complaint and charging documents reflect evidence gathered from the post and related investigative steps.

Federal law bars transmitting threats through interstate commerce, including threats made via social media platforms that cross state or national lines.

The move effectively sidelined most of the office’s personnel and came after the White House warned that staffing reductions would proceed if Senate Democrats continued to block government funding.

OPA’s stated mission is to advance “reproductive health outcomes and adolescent health and wellbeing by supporting high-quality clinical services, evidence-based and innovative programs, rigorous research and evaluation.”

However, administration officials have argued that the office has been used to fund and promote policies inconsistent with the administration’s priorities, particularly regarding abortion and gender programs.

Before the Oct. 1 shutdown, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) instructed agencies to prepare reduction-in-force plans for employees working in programs lacking a current funding source or misaligned with the president’s policy objectives.

OPA was one of the targeted offices, officials said, due to its historical role in awarding grants to organizations advocating for gender ideology and abortion-related services.

OPA oversees the Title X family planning program under the Public Health Service Act, which funds projects offering a “broad range of acceptable and effective family planning methods and related preventive health services.”

While the statute bars federal funds from directly financing abortions, the Biden-Harris administration reversed a prior rule that prohibited Title X grantees from referring clients for abortion services.

Under the new rule, Title X recipients are required to provide such referrals upon request.

Affiliates of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, have received millions of dollars in Title X grants over the years.

Regulations finalized in October 2021 also prohibited Title X projects from requiring parental consent or notification when minors seek or receive services.

Texas challenged that rule in court in 2024, prompting HHS to suspend its enforcement within the state.

Under the Biden-Harris administration, individuals connected to pro-abortion and gender-activist organizations were hired into OPA.

At least one of those employees who remained in place after the Trump administration returned to power was among those impacted by the recent staff cuts, according to individuals familiar with the decision.

OPA under the prior administration published materials describing “gender-affirming care” for minors as “crucial to overall health and well-being.”

The same office issued grants to organizations promoting gender ideology to adolescents and distributing sexual content to youth.

In July, HHS issued guidance clarifying that recipients of grants under OPA’s Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program are prohibited from using federal funds for materials promoting gender ideology, LGBTQIA+ issues, or “anti-American ideologies.”

A small number of employees remain at OPA to perform legally required duties, according to officials.

The administration’s fiscal year 2026 budget proposal calls for eliminating the office entirely, continuing a broader effort to streamline federal agencies and eliminate programs deemed unnecessary or politically driven.

“HHS under the Biden administration became a bloated bureaucracy, growing its budget by 38% and its workforce by 17%,” said Rich Danker, assistant secretary for public affairs at HHS, in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Rep. Mary Miller of Illinois, who introduced an amendment in 2023 to cut funding for the OPA, praised the administration’s action.

“The Office of Population Affairs has long used taxpayer dollars to advance the leftist agenda targeting children and the unborn,” Miller said.

“I applaud the Trump Administration’s efforts to root out far-left programs in the federal government that undermine the very fabric of our country.”

OMB Director Russ Vought, who has advocated for reducing the size of the federal government, has played a key role in implementing the reductions in force across multiple agencies since the beginning of President Trump’s second term.

Whether the layoffs at OPA become permanent remains uncertain.

A federal judge on Wednesday temporarily blocked the administration’s plan to dismiss thousands of federal employees during the ongoing funding standoff.

Danker said HHS “is not currently taking actions to implement or administer its RIFs” until further legal clarification.

The government partially shut down on Oct. 1 after most Senate Democrats rejected a bipartisan continuing resolution that would have kept federal operations running.

Democrats have demanded $1.5 trillion in new spending and restrictions on the president’s authority to rescind previously approved funds as part of negotiations to reopen the government.

Nationwide demonstrations branded as the “No Kings” protests are set to take place across the United States on Saturday, featuring chants and slogans that call for abolishing private schools, guaranteeing universal housing, and advancing other left-wing policy goals.

Organizers of the protests have circulated a “Songs and Chants” sheet online, outlining the themes and messages that participants are expected to chant during marches in cities including Washington, D.C., New York City, and Portland.

The chants emphasize opposition to private education, property ownership, and capitalist structures, framing the demonstrations as a demand for “economic justice.”

One of the chants listed reads, “Education is a right. That’s why today we stand and fight. Oh oh oh oh oh, privatization’s got to go.”

The message calls for ending private education and expanding publicly funded systems, a recurring theme in the protests’ materials.

Other chants include, “I went down to the rich man’s house. And I took back what he stole from me. Took back my dignity, took back my humanity,” and “Protect the land and water. What do we want – protect our future.”

The lyrics for the latter chant note that “future” can be substituted with phrases such as “housing for all people” or “public education,” depending on the march’s focus.

Online observers noted that the chant sheets contained multiple typographical errors, though organizers have not commented on the materials’ accuracy.

The “No Kings” protests are being coordinated nationally by the progressive organization Indivisible, which has previously organized large-scale demonstrations against President Donald Trump and Republican-led policies.

According to reporting from Fox News, Indivisible received a $3 million grant in 2023 from George Soros’ Open Society Foundations “to support the grantee’s social welfare activities.”

Indivisible confirmed it is overseeing “data management and communications” for the coordinated marches across the country.

The group’s co-founder, Ezra Levin, told NBC News that organizers expect approximately 2,000 separate events nationwide, though he acknowledged that major turnout will likely occur only in large metropolitan areas such as Washington, D.C., Portland, and New York City.

Indivisible was founded in 2016 and rose to prominence through its involvement in anti-Trump protests and its efforts to mobilize voters for Democratic candidates in congressional races.

The group has been criticized by Republican lawmakers for its ties to left-wing donors and its support from the Open Society network.

Speaking with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Friday, Senator Ted Cruz said there is “considerable evidence” linking George Soros and his affiliated organizations to the nationwide demonstrations.

“There’s considerable evidence that George Soros and his network are behind funding these rallies, which may well be riots all across the country,” Cruz said.

“This politicized march is being organized by Soros operatives and funded by Soros money. No one denies these basic facts.”

Cruz added that the Trump administration and congressional Republicans are “committed to countering this network of left-wing violence.”

Indivisible has not responded to those accusations.

In public statements, the group described the “No Kings” protests as “a national action in support of democracy and equality,” emphasizing nonviolent participation.

The demonstrations are expected to take place simultaneously across all 50 states on Saturday afternoon.

Law enforcement agencies in several major cities have confirmed that they are preparing for large crowds and potential disruptions to traffic and public transportation.

Officials in Washington, D.C., and New York City have announced plans for increased police presence near government buildings and public squares where protests are expected to converge.

The Department of Justice has dismissed two prosecutors from the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA) as part of an internal shakeup following a series of leaks and growing tensions between career prosecutors and new Trump administration appointees.

According to reports from Politico and MSNBC on Friday, Assistant U.S. Attorneys Elizabeth Yusi and Kristin Bird were terminated from their positions this week.

The firings came shortly after New York Attorney General Letitia James was indicted by a federal grand jury in the same district on charges of bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution.

Sources cited by independent journalist Julie Kelly said Yusi and Bird were escorted from the EDVA offices and stripped of their security clearances after allegedly leaking sensitive case information to members of the press.

The Department of Justice has not commented publicly on the specific reasons for their removal but confirmed that internal disciplinary actions had been taken.

The firings are part of broader personnel changes inside the Justice Department since U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan took over leadership of the Eastern District of Virginia.

Halligan, who was sworn in last month, has been overseeing high-profile investigations involving senior state and federal officials.

Halligan secured the indictment of Letitia James last Thursday.

The federal indictment charged James under 18 U.S.C. §1344 for bank fraud and 18 U.S.C. §1014 for making false statements to a financial institution.

The case centers on a mortgage loan obtained for a property James owns in Norfolk, Virginia, known as the “Perrone Property.”

Court documents allege that James falsely represented the Perrone Property as a secondary residence while using it as a rental property in violation of loan terms.

The indictment states that the mortgage prohibited James from renting or allowing others to occupy the home under any form of shared ownership agreement.

However, filings show that James listed the Perrone Property as an investment property on her Schedule E tax form and reported rental income to the IRS, contradicting her stated loan application.

The indictment against James followed President Donald Trump’s recent decision to remove former U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert from the post last month.

Siebert’s removal came after he reportedly declined to move forward with several politically sensitive cases, including investigations involving James, former FBI Director James Comey, and Rep. Adam Schiff.

After Siebert’s dismissal, Halligan assumed the role of Interim U.S. Attorney and promptly pursued multiple pending matters.

Within weeks, she brought an indictment against Comey related to alleged misconduct during his tenure at the FBI.

Friday’s developments also mark the latest in a series of personnel removals at the Department of Justice under the Trump administration.

Senior prosecutor Maya Song and national security attorney Michael Ben’Ary were dismissed earlier this month.

In a letter to his colleagues following his departure, Ben’Ary urged remaining DOJ staff to “continue to uphold the independence of their work” despite the changes in leadership.

Halligan’s office has not commented on whether additional dismissals are expected, but a Justice Department spokesperson confirmed that ongoing internal reviews are underway regarding misconduct and unauthorized communications with the media.

She remains free pending her initial court appearance, which is scheduled in the Eastern District of Virginia next week.

The Department of Justice has described the actions taken in recent weeks as part of a broader effort to “restore integrity and transparency” within the federal prosecution offices.

Officials familiar with the matter say additional indictments and staffing changes in the Eastern District are expected in the coming days.
