Senator John Kennedy walked into CBS territory on Sunday and gave viewers another reminder that a calm answer can be far more devastating than a shouting match.

The Louisiana Republican appeared on “Face the Nation” with Margaret Brennan, where the conversation moved through the Saudi nuclear deal, energy prices, and the familiar topic that makes the legacy press break out in hives, election integrity.

Things sharpened when Brennan turned to the SAVE America Act, a Republican backed election reform measure that Democrats and their media allies have been busy branding as some dangerous partisan scheme.

The House passed the SAVE America Act less than two weeks ago as part of the National Defense Authorization Act, according to the original report, and Republicans have been using the reconciliation process to keep the proposal moving.

Brennan described the bill as “highly controversial, highly partisan” before trying to frame the issue as a threat to public faith in elections.

“No. In my opinion, for both sides to have credibility in our elections, we need to do two things:” Kennedy said.

Kennedy continued with the second point, saying, “Number two, we need to go back to having an election DAY, not an election MONTH.”

That line cut straight through years of bureaucratic fog surrounding modern election administration.

For generations, Americans understood Election Day as a civic deadline, not a sprawling season of ballot chasing, mass mailing, extended counting, and legal wrangling.

The longer the process stretches, the more room there is for confusion, suspicion, and political gamesmanship.

Kennedy then summarized the purpose of the bill in terms almost any voter can understand.

“That, to me, is what the SAVE Act is all about. And I think that we can pass it and craft it in a way to survive a Byrd bath (for reconciliation).”

The left and its media partners prefer to dress the debate in dramatic language because the basic policy is hard to attack honestly.

Asking voters to prove they are eligible is not voter suppression, it is election protection.

Brennan’s framing revealed the usual Washington reflex.

If Democrats change voting procedures, the press calls it expanding access, but if Republicans insist on identity checks and a real Election Day, suddenly it becomes a sinister power grab.

That double standard is why Kennedy’s answer mattered.

A Jewish man who was stabbed on Manhattan’s Upper West Side had recently moved from New York City to Florida, reportedly at least partly because he had seen enough of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s anti Israel posture and the city’s ugly surge in antisemitism.

Moshe Yezhak Grunhaus, 50, was allegedly attacked Thursday after leaving a synagogue near Amsterdam Avenue and West 86th Street.

Police say the suspect, Raul Morales, was armed with a screwdriver and repeatedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the violent episode.

Grunhaus had already left New York for Surfside, Florida, near Miami, according to the report.

He was only back in Gotham for a few days to clear out his apartment, which is a grim little snapshot of where the city now stands.

A source told JNS that frustration with Mamdani was part of the reason Grunhaus decided to leave the city for good.

For many Jewish New Yorkers, that is not exactly a mystery wrapped in a riddle.

“It makes sense, honestly,” a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous told The Post Saturday.

“I mean, given the hatred that is being spoken by our mayor about towards the Jewish community, he’s not welcoming. He’s not encouraging people to be proud of their Judaism here, and it’s very obvious.”

The neighbor continued: “I mean, we all know what he was screaming when he attacked those people. He said, ‘Allahu Akbar So, like, are you kidding me?

Another resident was just as blunt about the climate in the city.

“I think the mayor is definitely aggravating the negative side of it. He’s saying things that he doesn’t have the authority to say. Like he wants to arrest the Prime Minister of Israel.”

That same resident added, “People who wear kippahs definitely have to be more cautious.”

In a city run by progressives who never run out of press conference language, that sentence should embarrass every official who helped create this mess.

Grunhaus had been publicly focused on antisemitism in New York, often tagging Mamdani while sharing stories from people who said they had faced anti Jewish hatred.

One post from the Israeli Consulate described a Jewish man and his family being confronted in broad daylight.

“I hope your kids die,” the June 28 repost read.

“That’s what a stranger said to Rami Feinstein and his family in broad daylight in New York. Not online. Not anonymously. In the middle of a New York street. This is what antisemitism looks like when hatred becomes acceptable, normalized and ignored.”

Grunhaus also posted about the Israelis murdered by Hamas in the October 7, 2023 terrorist attacks.

In October 2025, he wrote, “Standing here @ Mount Herzl Cemetery 2 years after the October 7th massacre (Hebrew calendar, day after but first day of funerals for the nation),”

He added, “Commemorating our heroes who were the first of many to sacrifice their lives to protect our nation. Never Again!”

A month later, he posted photos of two Israeli hostages still held by Hamas.

Mamdani, asked about the issue at an unrelated Bronx event, gave the usual official response.

He said, “There’s no tolerance for bigotry,” while also acknowledging that Jewish New Yorkers remain the majority of hate crime victims across the city.

A rally organized by End Jew Hatred was planned for Sunday morning at 509 Amsterdam Avenue to “unite against hate on the Upper West Side” and call out Mamdani.

A flyer posted to X did not bother with polite political theater, declaring, “Blood is on Mamdani’s hands,”

Yitz Landes, 37, a professor at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, said Jews in the city “are on edge,” according to the report.

His mother lives in the building next door to the apartment Grunhaus was clearing out.

Like Grunhaus, Landes said he “always wear a kippa in the city. I would feel weird not to. I don’t want to give up wearing it publicly, and I hope I can continue to do it.”

Morales, described as an ex con, allegedly stabbed 57 year old Chok Sung a few blocks away before the attack on Grunhaus.

He was arraigned on two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault and one count of attempted assault, all being prosecuted as hate crimes.

A judge ordered Morales to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, and he is due back in court on July 30.

Both victims are stable, with Sung still hospitalized and Grunhaus released Friday, while New Yorkers are left asking why basic public safety now feels like a luxury item.

Sen. John Fetterman is once again proving to be one of the strangest figures in today’s Democratic Party, a maverick from Pennsylvania who keeps irritating the left while earning unexpected praise from Republican voters.

“I go everywhere. I do most of a lot of the shopping. And people will approach me, and it’s almost uniformly very positive,” Fetterman said.

The Pennsylvania Democrat added, “I can’t fully understand, I’ve seen polling, why I’m so popular with Republicans. I don’t really understand that, but I’m always going to treat both sides with respect.”

That sentence alone probably explains half of the mystery.

In a Democratic Party where calling Republicans fascists has practically become a nervous tic, basic courtesy now qualifies as political rebellion.

Fetterman stressed that he refuses to describe Republicans as Nazis or fascists, saying disagreements should be handled with respect.

Imagine that, a United States senator suggesting political opponents are not comic book villains.

His numbers with Pennsylvania voters show just how upside down the current political map has become.

A recent Quinnipiac University poll found Fetterman with a 77 percent approval rating among Republicans in the state, while Democrats gave him a 69 percent disapproval rating.

That kind of split would have been almost unthinkable a generation ago.

Today, it makes perfect sense in a party where the loudest voices seem more interested in campus protest slogans than normal working class voters.

Lara Trump told Fetterman the Republican Party would “love” to have him switch sides.

The senator, however, rejected the offer, at least for now.

“My whole family is Republican, and I think they love me,” Fetterman quipped, adding that his father was watching the interview.

He said his criticism is aimed at the most extreme forces inside his own party, not at everyday Democrats.

“My criticism is directed at the extreme, in my view, indefensible kinds of views [of] things,” Fetterman said.

He also warned about primary candidates in his party who keep moving further left on Israel and America.

“People that are winning the primaries, they are almost always anti Israel and then anti American, and they’ve been forced to delete all the outlandish things that they’ve said,” he said.

Fetterman has repeatedly broken with his party’s activist wing through his firm defense of Israel.

That stance has made him a target for the left, where support for America’s closest Middle East ally is apparently now treated as some exotic right wing habit.

He has also clashed with Democrats during government shutdown fights, refusing to simply follow the party line when he believes the left is playing games with basic governance.

For voters tired of performative outrage, that sort of bluntness has obvious appeal.

Republicans have noticed.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota and others have reportedly made overtures to Fetterman, hoping he might consider leaving the Democratic Party.

Fetterman has repeatedly said he is not switching parties.

Still, he has left himself one notable caveat, suggesting that if Democrats become aggressively hostile to Israel, that could change the equation.

That answer should make Democratic strategists a little nervous, assuming they still have time between scolding voters and chasing approval from online activists.

Fetterman may not be a conservative, but he has learned that the hard left has a very low tolerance for dissent.

Despite his reputation as a thorn in the side of progressives, GovTrack has ranked Fetterman as more liberal than more than a dozen Senate Democrats based on his voting record.

In other words, Republicans are not cheering him because he suddenly became Barry Goldwater.

They are responding to something simpler.

He talks like a human being, shows up in places outside the left wing media bubble, and refuses to pretend that every Republican voter is a threat to civilization.

Fetterman also complained about what he sees as a double standard inside the Democratic coalition.

Far left politicians can attack moderate Democrats all day long, but when he criticizes the extreme wing, the outrage machine starts spinning.

“There’s also been a double standard. People, whether it’s [Bernie] Sanders or other people, are allowed to criticize Democrats, but when I call out the extreme … I get the criticism like ‘why are you going on Fox?’” Fetterman said.

“I’ll have a conversation with anyone that’s going to play it straight as you and Fox has,” he added.

That is the real offense in the eyes of the modern left.

Not just that Fetterman criticizes them, but that he is willing to sit down with people they have declared off limits.

For now, Fetterman remains a Democrat, much to the disappointment of Republicans hoping for a dramatic party switch.

But his popularity with GOP voters is no mystery to anyone paying attention.

When one Democrat declines to spit venom at half the country, defends Israel without apology, and calls out the radicals in his own backyard, Americans notice.

These days, that is apparently enough to make him sound like a rebel.

CNN commentator Van Jones did something unusual during coverage of the rescheduled White House Correspondents Association Dinner.

He gave President Trump credit before promptly returning to familiar cable news form and tearing into the president’s speech.

The dinner had been moved from its original April 25 date after a gunman stormed the security perimeter and fired a shot in an attempt to assassinate Trump.

That ugly backdrop made the president’s decision to attend the media gala more notable than the usual Beltway cocktail circuit chatter.

CNN anchor John Berman explained that the evening’s schedule had changed.

The awards for journalists would come before Trump spoke, meaning the president would have to sit through honors given to reporters who often cover him with all the warmth of an IRS audit.

“The president was going to speak first, then the awards. So, he could have left, in theory, if he wanted to,” Berman said before turning to Jones for analysis.

Berman added, “This time, he’s going to have to sit through and watch awards being given to reporters who report on him, maybe in ways he doesn’t like. One wonders how he might feel about that.”

Jones responded with a rare moment of praise for Trump, acknowledging that the president was not ducking the room or heading for the exit. For once, even a CNN panel had to admit the obvious.

“You really do have to give President Trump credit tonight,” Jones said.

“I mean, we were saying he was going to basically do his thing and run away.”

“He’s not running away,” Jones added.

“He’s going to be there. And maybe someone will have the courage to speak up [against him]. Maybe they won’t. But he’s putting himself in harm’s way in that regard.”

That was about as generous as the moment was going to get.

After Trump delivered his remarks, which included jabs at the press and candid comments about his relationship with the media, Jones shifted hard into criticism.

“I think the worst thing you can say is that it just wasn’t funny at all,” Jones said.

“It just wasn’t funny. It was mean and small. But you can be mean and small and funny. This was mean and small and not funny.”

Jones argued that Trump missed a chance to speak to Americans facing real problems.

His complaint was that the president focused too much on himself and his adversaries rather than kitchen table issues.

“And he didn’t talk about any American besides himself and his enemies,” Jones continued.

“There are people at home who can’t figure out how to pay for gas. There are people at home who worry about their nephew who’s serving overseas.”

“There’s people at home who have real problems, who would love to see somebody reflect their reality and maybe make fun of some of their enemies, some of their problems. He missed the entire opportunity to talk to those people.”

Of course, the idea that the White House press dinner is suddenly sacred ground for working class policy talk may surprise Americans who know it mostly as a room full of journalists, celebrities, consultants and politicians congratulating one another.

Still, Jones framed the speech as a squandered opportunity.

The moment also came after Jones recently appeared to push back against the far left activists gaining influence inside his own party.

The longtime progressive Democrat warned that some ideas being packaged as progressivism are doing damage to Democrats.

Jones condemned Democratic Socialists of America aligned positions on Hamas, policing, prisons and borders.

“Supporting Hamas is not progressive. ‘No police, no prisons, no borders’ is not progressive. Celebrating the murder of Israeli civilians is not progressive. These ideas are REGRESSIVE,” Jones said.

That admission marked another notable break from the activist fringe, even if Jones remains firmly on the left.

It also showed the growing panic among Democrats who can see the party’s radical wing turning off voters outside the faculty lounge and protest encampment circuit.

So the evening delivered a strange split screen. Jones praised Trump for showing up and sitting through a room full of media elites, then blasted him for being, in his view, too harsh and not funny enough.

For Trump supporters, the spectacle likely looked simpler.

The president walked into hostile territory, took the heat, fired back at the press, and left CNN debating whether he deserved credit or condemnation.

A violent scene in Far Rockaway turned into a nightmare Saturday when police shot a shotgun armed man outside a Queens home after an explosion erupted from the residence, then found two relatives dead inside, according to police and sources.

The NYPD responded around noon to Ocean Crest Boulevard near Hartman Lane after a 911 caller reported shots fired inside the home.

What officers encountered was not some routine domestic disturbance, but the kind of chaos that reminds sane people why police still matter.

Assistant Chief Christopher McIntosh said the caller gave dispatchers a terrifying warning before officers arrived.

“The caller stated that her husband was armed and had a history with mental illness,” he said.

The woman also told 911 that her husband, identified as 33 year old Kegan Thomas, “killed them,” McIntosh said.

That chilling message set off a rapid police response to a home that had already become a deadly crime scene.

When officers arrived, the wife was outside the residence and told them she had heard gunshots.

She said “and when she walked into the room she saw a body on the bed,” McIntosh said.

According to McIntosh, the woman ran out of the building and called 911 after seeing the body.

“Additionally, she told responding officers to be careful because her husband has a shotgun,” he said.

By 12:15 p.m., the NYPD had called in its Emergency Services Unit, the specialized officers who get summoned when a bad situation has the potential to get much worse. In this case, it did exactly that.

As officers prepared to force entry into the home, McIntosh said “a large fiery explosion erupted from the house,” turning an already dangerous call into a full blown combat zone.

The cause and type of explosive remain under investigation.

Sources said the suspect then emerged from the home wearing a bulletproof vest with extra ammunition inside it.

He was also armed with a shotgun, giving officers little room for hesitation.

Police said the suspect confronted officers and refused to obey their commands.

A police source said he was shot by multiple officers after ignoring “numerous commands to drop the shotgun,” which is about as clear a warning as anyone should need.

McIntosh described the confrontation in detail.

“Officers issued numerous verbal commands for the subject to put his hands up so he could drop the weapon,” he said.

The suspect still did not comply, according to police.

“After failing to comply with repeat commands to put his hands up and still armed (with) the shotgun, officers discharged their weapons and struck the subject.”

WATCH:

Thomas was taken to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition and was undergoing surgery, sources said.

McIntosh said he has no criminal record and no mental health history with the NYPD, a detail investigators will likely continue examining as they piece together what led to the violence.

Inside the home, police found two bodies with bullet wounds, sources told The Post.

The victims were believed to be the suspect’s mother in law and sister in law.

The horror of the scene was matched only by the danger officers faced while entering it.

In a city where politicians and activist types regularly lecture police from safe rooms and press conferences, this was the real world again, a shotgun, an explosion, body armor, dead victims inside, and officers moving toward it.

“Again, it cannot be overstated that the bravery of the officers who responded today … they ran toward the danger with no hesitation,” McIntosh said.

That kind of praise was not just official boilerplate.

Investigators are still working to determine what explosive was set off inside the residence and whether the blast was deliberately triggered as officers closed in.

The crime scene left behind is expected to require careful processing, given the combination of gunfire, fire, possible explosives, and two deaths inside the home.

The NYPD shooting will be reviewed, as police involved shootings always are.

But the early account paints a stark picture, officers responded to a woman begging for help, faced an armed man in body armor after an explosion, and fired only after repeated commands were ignored.

For the neighbors in Far Rockaway, the quiet of a Saturday afternoon was shattered by gunfire, flames, and a deadly family tragedy.

For the officers who answered the call, it was another reminder that when everyone else runs out, somebody still has to go in.

Washington is not merely issuing strongly worded statements while hostile actors and blockade runners play games in a dangerous waterway.

For the crews and governments watching from the region, the lesson is plain.

After a federal arrest warrant was issued in May 2025, prosecutors say she skipped court and fled to Jamaica.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche made clear that the Justice Department views the case as another warning shot to those who treated pandemic aid like a personal jackpot.

“She fled the country believing she could escape justice but ultimately could not.”

According to federal officials, Jamaican authorities captured Escoe after receiving a tip.

She had reportedly been living under the fake identity “Harley Newman,” which apparently did not work out quite the way she hoped.

Her return to South Florida came through a coordinated effort involving the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Service, the State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service office at the U.S. Embassy in Kingston, the Jamaican Constabulary Force, and Jamaica’s fugitive apprehension team.

That is a lot of manpower for one alleged fraudster who thought a plane ticket could solve her problems.

Assistant Attorney General Colin M. McDonald of the National Fraud Enforcement Division said the arrest sends a direct message.

“Elaine Angene Escoe’s arrest and return to the United States demonstrates that no one is beyond the reach of American justice,” he said.

McDonald added that the Fraud Division will not be letting up on those accused of raiding public funds.

“The Fraud Division will continue to vigorously prosecute those who steal from the American people.”

Court records allege that Escoe and her fellow conspirators submitted, or caused others to submit, fraudulent applications seeking more than 32 million dollars from multiple federal pandemic programs.

Those programs included the Paycheck Protection Program, the Restaurant Revitalization Fund, the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant, and Economic Injury Disaster Loan funds.

Prosecutors say the applications included false claims about businesses, payroll, revenue, and operations.

In plain English, the alleged scheme involved inventing or inflating business activity so federal money could be pulled out of programs meant to keep legitimate employers afloat.

Authorities also say the conspirators created fake tax documents, fabricated bank records, and other phony financial materials.

Lenders and program administrators allegedly relied on those records when approving loans and grants, which is how the money kept flowing.

FBI Director Kash Patel pointed to Escoe’s capture as part of a broader crackdown under the bureau’s Most Wanted Fraudsters List.

He said the FBI and its partners have now captured four Most Wanted Fraudsters in five weeks, a pace that should make other fugitives overseas start sleeping a little less comfortably.

Patel also tied the enforcement push to President Trump, Vice President Vance, and the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud.

According to Patel, the four captured suspects were arrested across three continents and are accused of nearly 1.8 billion dollars in combined fraud after spending more than 3,500 days on the run collectively.

The alleged operation was not limited to applications tied to businesses controlled by the conspirators.

Prosecutors say some applications were submitted for third parties in exchange for massive kickbacks, sometimes reaching 50 percent of the loan proceeds.

Federal officials say the proceeds were then laundered among members of the group.

That detail adds another layer to what prosecutors describe as a sprawling abuse of relief programs created during a national emergency.

U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida said Escoe allegedly helped orchestrate a scheme that took more than 32 million dollars from programs meant for American workers and businesses.

“Defendants cannot escape accountability simply by leaving the country,” he said.

Quiñones also credited the federal, state, and international partners who helped bring Escoe back.

“This coordinated effort demonstrates that we will pursue fugitives wherever they go and bring them back to face justice.”

Escoe is the last remaining defendant charged in the alleged scheme.

After a December 2025 trial, Alfred Davis, Cher Davis, and Latoya Clark were convicted by a federal jury, while James McGhow and Gino Jourdan previously pleaded guilty.

The sentences already handed down were not exactly a slap on the wrist.

Alfred Davis received 235 months in prison, Cher Davis received 87 months, Clark received 70 months, Jourdan received 46 months, and McGhow received 42 months.

The FBI Miami West Palm Beach Resident Agency is leading the investigation, with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations Miami and the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office.

The case also fits into the Trump Justice Department’s wider push to claw back money stolen from the American people.

The FBI announced the Most Wanted Fraudsters List on June 4, and the results came fast.

Herb Kimble, accused in a 1.2 billion dollar telemedicine and medical equipment scheme, was arrested in the Philippines just four days later.

Escoe was added to the list on June 8 and was captured less than two months later.

For alleged fraudsters who thought the COVID money train would roll forever, the new message from Washington is blunt enough, the ride is over.

Minnesota has become one of the states where progressive politics often moves through government institutions with very little concern for ordinary families.

The attitude from the activist class is simple, they know best, parents can catch up later.

A classroom for four year olds should be one of the least political places in America.

It should be filled with alphabet charts, picture books, building blocks, and patient teachers helping children develop basic social and learning skills.

Instead, stories like this keep convincing parents that public schools are being used to normalize ideas that belong far outside early childhood education.

The left keeps demanding trust while giving parents fresh reasons not to offer it.

The report also arrives in a media environment where many major outlets would rather ignore stories that make progressive institutions look extreme.

Independent reporting has become essential because the establishment press frequently treats parental concern as the real problem.

For parents, this is not complicated.

A deadly attack shattered Berlin’s Christopher Street Day celebration Saturday night after a white van plowed into a crowd near the route of the city’s massive LGBTQ+ event, killing one person and injuring at least 16 others.

Authorities said the driver fled after the crash, setting off an urgent police manhunt across the German capital.

The suspect was identified as Abdul B., age 21, and officials said he was already known to law enforcement.

“The suspect is known to police.

He is known to us as a member of Islamic circles here in Berlin, and our search for this person is proceeding at full speed,” police spokesman Florian Nath said.

That detail will sound painfully familiar to Europeans who have watched officials repeatedly discover, usually after blood is on the pavement, that dangerous extremists were already somewhere in the security files.

Once again, the public is left asking why known threats remain free to turn crowded streets into crime scenes.

The attack happened around 10 p.m. near Tiergarten park, along a route that had been used earlier by the pride march.

Police said the van drove into the park area, struck multiple people, and then crashed into a tree.

The event had drawn hundreds of thousands of people to Berlin for what organizers and city officials described as a major celebration of tolerance and public life.

Within minutes, that atmosphere gave way to sirens, panic, and a heavy police presence.

At least one victim died, while several others reportedly suffered life threatening injuries.

Officials also said investigators were looking into witness accounts suggesting some victims may have had stab wounds in addition to injuries from the vehicle impact.

Event attendee Julian Meithig said he had been celebrating near the Brandenburg Gate and was planning to head to an afterparty when a friend warned him that “something bad happened there and there are a lot of fire trucks, a lot of emergency vehicles, ambulances.”

Meithig walked toward the scene and saw the aftermath of the attack. He later said “it’s a dark day for our community.”

About 15 minutes after the assault, the Christopher Street Day event was canceled.

Police flooded the area as emergency responders treated victims and investigators began searching for the suspect.

Berlin officials also activated a crisis hotline for people unable to locate loved ones after the attack.

In a city packed with visitors and residents for one of its largest annual public events, families were left scrambling for answers.

Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner said that “following a peaceful and vibrant pride parade, the rally for a tolerant and peaceful Berlin was attacked in the most brutal manner.”

“This is an attack on our free and cosmopolitan society.”

“I have confidence in the police and security authorities, who will be working around the clock to investigate,” Wegner said.

The mayor’s words captured the official mood, but they also highlighted the uncomfortable reality facing Germany and much of Western Europe.

Leaders talk endlessly about open societies, but open societies still require serious borders, serious policing, and serious consequences for extremists who make their intentions clear.

For now, police say the suspect remains at large as of Sunday morning.

The manhunt is continuing, with officers seeking the public’s help as they work through evidence from one of Berlin’s most disturbing public attacks in recent memory.

Berlin has seen what happens when a known extremist threat allegedly reaches a crowded street, and the bill for that failure was paid by innocent people.
