Dan Bongino said the illegal population in the United States has fallen significantly since January 2025, arguing that the decline is disrupting what he described as a Democratic strategy to use immigration to increase political power.
Bongino pointed to an estimate from the Center for Immigration Studies as he discussed the change in the illegal population under President Donald Trump.
“So we’ve got the workforce booming, manufacturing returning, the border closed, the streets are being cleaned up dramatically, crime rates dropping. You got some more? Hell yeah, I got some more,” Bongino said.
He then turned specifically to illegal immigration and accused Democrats of viewing the issue through the lens of political influence.
“What about the illegal population of the United States that was being used by the Democrats to create a massive welfare state? They talk about it all the time. How they use demographic destiny to change the demographics of the country. The Democrats talk about this all the time,” Bongino said.
Bongino cited a reported decline of 2.3 million since January 2025.
He acknowledged that the figure does not mean every person in the country illegally has left or that immigration enforcement is finished.
“Rapid Response 47, again, according to cis.org or cis_org on X, the net change in the overall size of the illegal population in the United States is a quote extraordinary decline of 2.3 million since January of 2025. Is that every illegal gone? No. Is there more work to do? Yes. That’s a pretty dramatic decline,” Bongino said.
Bongino then connected the population change to congressional representation and the Electoral College.
He argued that the size of the illegal population has political consequences because congressional districts are based on population.
“There’s about 700,000, roughly, people in a congressional district. If you get rid of 2.3 million illegals who do not belong here and broke the law to get here, the Democrats demographic destiny argument that they talk about all the time, look it up, you start to massively lose Electoral College and congressional representation you garnered by illicit and illegal means,” Bongino said.
He also referenced a New York Times headline, “We Can Replace Them,” by Michelle Goldberg while making his case that demographic changes have been openly discussed.
Bongino argued that Democrats’ position on illegal immigration is ultimately about political power rather than concern for immigrants.
“This is the only reason they want illegals in the country for political power. They don’t care about illegals at all. They care about political power. Using illegal aliens are just a tool for them. I promise you,” Bongino said.
He offered a hypothetical scenario in which illegal immigrants suddenly supported Republicans, arguing that Democrats would immediately reverse their approach to immigration enforcement.
“If illegal aliens were somehow like mind wiped into all voting for Republicans tomorrow, the Democrats would be like, Shut the wall. Build a wall. Shut it down. Ship everybody out. They would be like, We need to give ICE, CBP 2 trillion in funding. They don’t care about illegals. They care about using them for political power. They’ve talked about it over and over,” Bongino said.
Bongino closed by praising the Trump administration’s deportation campaign and describing its purpose as enforcing the requirement that people enter the United States legally.
“Donald Trump and the Trump administration and his law enforcement and DOJ folks have engaged in an unprecedented deportation effort to send a message that you can come here, but you have to come here legally. And if you don’t, you’ve got to go. And the Democrats are losing their minds,” Bongino said.
