Kristi Noem Schools Senator Andy Kim on Border Security, Leaves Him Red-Faced

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, nominated by President Trump as Homeland Security Secretary, faced the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Friday morning for her confirmation hearing.

As reported by The Gateway Pundit, what unfolded was not only a testament to her poise and knowledge but also an embarrassing display of unpreparedness from Senator Andy Kim (D-N.J.).

Noem, who has served as governor since 2019 and previously represented South Dakota in the U.S. House of Representatives, handled the hearing with professionalism. However, Senator Kim’s questioning revealed a shocking lack of understanding about border security and constitutional authority.

Kim began by citing the appointment of Tom Homan as President Trump’s Border Czar and asked Noem, “Who’s in charge of the nation’s borders?”

A question so elementary it hardly required a response. Without hesitation, Noem clarified that under the U.S. Constitution, the President holds ultimate authority over national security, including border management.

Kim sheepishly admitted that her response aligned with what he expected but claimed he was “confused” because of Homan’s role.

Noem patiently explained that while Homan has been tasked with overseeing enforcement, she, Homan, and other officials work under the President’s directives.

Her clear, concise response underscored Kim’s lack of preparation. The moment was a stark reminder of the gaps in understanding among some Democratic lawmakers regarding basic governmental functions.

The exchange didn’t end there. Kim launched into a lengthy monologue expressing concern that Homan’s role might overshadow Noem’s responsibilities. Remaining composed, Noem reassured him that she had no issues collaborating with Homan under President Trump’s leadership.

Her response once again highlighted her competence and understanding of the role, leaving Kim visibly flustered.

For New Jerseyans, this display from Senator Kim might give pause. If this level of confusion and lack of preparation is what they can expect over the next six years, the Garden State may be in for a rough ride.
