The debate over whether a Catholic man can express his vehemently Catholic views in the United States continues to rage on.
Earlier in May, social media erupted when Harrison Butker – kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs – addressed graduates at Benedictine College – a liberal arts college in Atchinson, Kansas.
In praising the role of women in the household, Butker was labeled a sexist by enraged liberals across the nation. Likewise, his criticism of Pride Month sparked fury among LGBTQ+ activists.
Not everyone was outraged; despite condemnation from the NFL, Butker’s jersey became the most popular in the online store as thousands offered a show of support.
Nevertheless, his nationwide support has not been universal. One infuriated progressive, based in Washington D.C., opted to write an opinion column in which they called for the Chiefs to “make a statement by signing a woman to kick”.
“There are more than 300 players on the 14 teams in the National Women’s Soccer League,” the columnist wrote. “That’s more than 300 women who are professional ball kickers and don’t currently choose to be stay-at-home housewives.”
Naturally, the calls for dismissal did not go the way the writer intended.
He did, nevertheless, find some support.
What’s your opinion? Should Butker be fired for his comments, or is Woke extremism going further than ever?
