Chris Cuomo, host of The Chris Cuomo Project and NewsNation anchor, didn’t hold back on his criticism of left-wing reactions to the July assassination attempt against President-elect Donald Trump.
During a recent episode of his show, Cuomo expressed both disgust and what he described as “satisfaction” over the political fallout Vice President Kamala Harris faced in November, attributing it to the left’s appalling response to Trump’s near-death experience, as reported by The Daily Caller.
The incident occurred during a Trump rally in Butler Township, Pennsylvania, where a gunman fired at the President-elect, striking him in the ear.
Despite the gravity of the situation—an assassination attempt on a U.S. leader—many left-leaning commentators minimized the attack. Some even claimed Trump was hit by teleprompter glass rather than a bullet.
Cuomo didn’t mince words, directing his outrage at those who dismissed the seriousness of the attempt:
“What I found completely appalling and outrageous was how unimpressed lefties were by Trump getting shot in the head and how many of you would say, ‘Will you stop saying he got shot in the head? It just nicked his ear.’ Once again, to my earlier point: fuck you. You get nicked in the ear by a bullet and tell me that it’s ‘No big deal. I’m good. I’m good.’ Nah, nah. That’s crazy.”
Cuomo highlighted what he saw as hypocrisy, pointing out that if a similar attack had been made on Harris, the media and the left would have been consumed with outrage for days. He continued:
“If that had happened to Harris, you guys would have talked about it for three days nonstop about how we’re in Helter Skelter mode or whatever it is. And then you go and call me a bigot for saying that. This is why you lost the election. That’s exactly why you lost the election.”
The failed assassination attempt wasn’t without consequence. One attendee, former volunteer fire chief Corey Comperatore, was tragically killed. Two others, 57-year-old David Dutch and 74-year-old James Copenhaver, were injured.
Yet, despite the tragedy, some on the left propagated conspiracy theories that the incident was staged. According to a Morning Consult poll, a third of President Joe Biden’s supporters entertained the possibility that the attempt wasn’t genuine.
Cuomo didn’t stop there. He addressed a second assassination attempt on Trump in September, when a man armed with a semi-automatic rifle targeted the President-elect at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. Secret Service agents thwarted the attack before shots were fired.
Cuomo revealed he personally reached out to Trump after the incident:
“I reached out to Trump. I wanted to just say, ‘Listen, I’m really sorry that this is going on and it’s being dealt with this way.’ Not because I’m in favor of his politics or what he says—I criticize him all the time. That’s my job, and he deserves it. But he doesn’t deserve this.”
While Cuomo’s politics often differ from Trump’s, his condemnation of the left’s reaction was clear: their callousness crossed a line, and it didn’t go unnoticed by voters.
