Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker has suggested concerns about President Joe Biden’s age could be solved by replacing Vice President Kamala Harris with former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who will likely be remembered by her humiliating loss to Donald Trump in 2016.

Parker argued in the op-ed that Harris’ poor popularity rating justified the running mate replacement. The columnist highlighted the “lackluster” performance of the vice president, and suggested that it was her lack of competence rather than her race or sex that impeded the Biden-Harris campaign.

In February 2024, Special Counsel Robert Hur, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, released a report on Biden’s misplacement of highly confidential documents during his time as vice president. Hur concluded that, though Biden was a “well-meaning” and “sympathetic” old man, he suffered from a poor memory and had knowingly misplaced the top secret documents.

Both Republicans and Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. have long raised questions about Biden’s mental wellbeing and ability to hold unscripted debates. Biden’s supporters, however, such as actor Michael Douglas, have continued to insist that the 81-year-old is as “sharp as a tack”. Biden angrily dismissed Hur’s claims and insisted there were no problems with his mental wellbeing.

Conservatives have suggested that Harris is relied on to assist a “weak” president, and speculated in 2023 that Harris was fully aware that Biden may not last a second full term in the White House. Harris has not performed better than either Trump or Biden in polls, however, and her positivity rating was lower than both candidates at 31% in 2023. Phrased differently; VP Harris has the lowest net approval rating of any VP in the history of modern polling.

Polls have found Biden’s age to be a leading concern among voters, as more Democratic voters question whether the incumbent president is fit enough for another four years in the White House. Parker claimed that Clinton, 76, would be the obvious substitute for Harris. She highlighted the impact of Clinton’s activity in the news cycle suggesting to voters that, had she not been defeated by Trump in 2016, the country would not be caught in a dilemma of being governed by “old white men”.

Clinton is also reiterating her support for Israel and reminding voters of her past role in the Obama administration. Regarding the suggestion to replace Biden’s running mate with an alternative only a few years younger than the incumbent president, Parker said it was “just a thought” but that “worse ideas” had still managed to succeed.

Republican Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton has defended former President Donald Trump’s State of the Union comments on Ukraine, noting that the country is only invaded when Democrats are in the White House. Crimea was illegally annexed by the Kremlin in 2014 during former President Barack Obama’s second term. Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 a little over a year after President Joe Biden entered the White House.

During the interview with State of the Union Host Jake Tapper, Cotton was grilled over Trump’s claims that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy never stops seeking US assistance in its war with Russia. Cotton also suggested that the military aid sent to Ukraine by the Trump administration was more effective in fending off Russian aggression in the war’s early stages than the aid supplied under Biden’s leadership.

The senator blasted Biden over the chaotic withdrawal of US armed forces from Afghanistan in 2021, arguing that this was the reason Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to “go for the jugular” in Ukraine. Cotton clarified that Trump supports Ukraine over Russia and wants victory for Ukraine, but argued that Europe needs to “do more” and “care more” about a conflict in its “backyard”.

Cotton said that the White House needed to “get tough” on America’s allies and foreign leaders who are “free-riding” on the strength of the US military. He argued that only under Trump will European leaders “finally” invest in “common sense”.

The final rules for the first scheduled debate between former President Donald Trump and incumbent President Joe Biden have been announced by CNN, which stated that both parties had agreed to several conditions for the event due to take place on June 27th.

The report stated that Biden and Trump had both agreed to a 90-minute debate featuring two commercial breaks. State of the Union anchors Dana Bash and Jake Tapper are set to host the standoff. Neither candidate will be allowed to contact members of his campaign during the breaks.

After the 2020 debate between the two candidates was marred with interruptions and insults from both sides, Biden and Trump have both agreed that when it is not their turn to speak their microphones will be muted. Notes and props will not be allowed, but they will be provided with a pen, paper and a bottle of water to use during the debate.

Following concerns about Biden’s mental wellbeing and age, and suggestions that he was avoiding unscripted debates with rival candidates, commentators noted that previous presidents such as Barack Obama and Ronald Reagan had “uneven” first debates

A coin will be tossed to determine where the candidates stand. The network has also announced that there will be no studio audience during the debate.

There was reportedly the possibility that independent candidates could qualify for the debates, but they would need to secure 15% of votes in at least four national polls. Robert F. Kennedy has already met the 15% requirement in two polls but ended up not qualifying.

The politicians in these cities watch their jurisdictions get attacked, and then they impotently bow down to demands from the bullies. Progressive mayor Jacob Frey campaigned on police reform (read: neutering law enforcement), but then got booed by shrieking crowds in 2020 when he said he didn’t want to abolish the entire police force.

Huh. You’d have thought that just being human was enough to make people fear getting robbed or beaten, but apparently it’s all the fault of those dastardly conservatives. Moriarty goes on to establish her woke-and-aware-white-lady cred by harping on “super predators,” a term from the 1990s that we’re all supposed to view now as a “dog whistle for racism.”

She even does the classic reversal of talking about “black youth” who are “at risk” because they’re “involved in behaviors we would wish they weren’t, but we kind of understand why they are.” Just to be clear, she’s talking about the perpetrators of violent crime as if they were the real victims. Seems to us their targets are the ones “at risk.”
