Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdulrahman Mohamed El Sayed is facing renewed scrutiny after CNN reported that deleted YouTube clips captured him criticizing Fourth of July fireworks and questioning the constitutional priority given to gun rights.
The footage gives Republicans a revealing look at the agenda Michigan Democrats just nominated.
El Sayed defeated establishment Democrat Rep. Haley Stevens in a primary that showcased the Democratic Party’s continuing march toward its radical fringe.
He will face Republican Mike Rogers in the November election, where culturally charged comments could carry serious consequences with Michigan voters.
According to CNN, El Sayed used a July 2024 video to ask whether Americans could “PLEASE” find another way to celebrate Independence Day.
The video promised viewers four reasons “why fireworks suck,” because apparently even a beloved patriotic tradition requires a lecture from the progressive hall monitors.
One chapter was titled “Fireworks just aren’t worth it: hear us out” and focused on air quality in Detroit following fireworks displays.
El Sayed also cited chemicals, risks to children and pets, and the possibility that explosions could trigger post traumatic stress among veterans.

Those concerns can certainly be discussed without treating America’s birthday celebration like some embarrassing national habit.
Yet El Sayed’s presentation reportedly placed the traditional display itself in the crosshairs, handing Republicans an easy example of a Democrat appearing culturally disconnected from ordinary voters.
The fireworks video was not the only material reportedly removed from public view.
CNN said other clips showed El Sayed dismissing the southern border as outside the five biggest concerns facing Americans while attacking Republicans for focusing attention on illegal immigration and border enforcement.
Another clip reportedly featured El Sayed floating the idea of replacing the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms with a constitutional right to health care.
That is no minor policy adjustment, and Michigan gun owners are unlikely to view an attack on an enumerated constitutional right as a harmless podcast thought experiment.
CNN reported that the videos had been set to private, but El Sayed’s extensive history as a podcaster, commentator, and social media personality has left a substantial digital trail.
Years of public commentary can become an inconvenient campaign archive when a candidate tries appealing beyond the activist left.
El Sayed has already faced scrutiny over audio showing his explicit support for efforts to defund police.
He has also argued that “toxic masculinity” governed American football and claimed that sports culture contains misogyny, racism, and homophobia, according to previous reporting from Breitbart News.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez has praised El Sayed and said he “represents the politics of the future” for America.
That endorsement may excite progressive activists, but it also gives Michigan voters a clear indication of which wing of the Democratic Party expects to claim him.
Sen. Tom Cotton has urged voters to reject El Sayed, describing him as a “true radical who has palled around with people that said America had 9/11 coming.”
Cotton also accused the Democrat of supporting the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, opposing border enforcement, and pursuing punishing tax levels.
“He wants to abolish ICE. He wants to stop border enforcement. He wants confiscatory levels of taxation for hardworking Americans,” Cotton said.
Those accusations place border security, public safety, and household finances squarely at the center of the developing Senate contest.
Rogers has been equally direct in defining his Democratic opponent.
“Abdul isn’t just another liberal. He’s an extremist,” Rogers said after El Sayed secured the nomination, arguing that the Democrat’s policies would release dangerous criminals, increase taxes, and align Michigan with ideological activists far outside the mainstream.
“Abdul doesn’t represent a vision for the future. He’s leading a movement grounded in ideological fanaticism. His agenda would make our communities less safe and our state less affordable,” Rogers added.
With deleted clips continuing to surface, El Sayed may spend the campaign explaining why his own words should not be taken at face value.
