An Ohio woman who killed and ate a cat has been jailed for a year.
Allexis Ferrell, 27, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of animal cruelty on Monday following the incident in late August. During her trial, it emerged that Ferrell killed a cat by “stomping its head then eating the cat”, according to a police report.
Police were called to the scene after an emergency call reported the act. Upon their arrival, officers found Ferrell squatting beside the cat’s remains. Witnesses described the scene as horrifying, with officers observing blood on Ferrell’s feet and fur on her lips.
Bodycam footage from the arrest captured the shocking exchange. One officer, visibly shaken, requested rubber gloves, commenting: “She’s covered in blood.” The officer then questioned Ferrell directly, asking: “Did you eat that cat? Did you eat it? No? Why’d you kill it then?”
Ferrell remained silent as the officer contacted the station and arranged for the dead cat to be picked up by the Humane Society.
The shocking act occurred just days before a nationwide frenzy over cat-eating allegations in Springfield, OH, involving Haitian migrants. Ferrell herself is a U.S-born citizen.
During the sentencing, Stark Country Common Pleas Judge Forchione did not mince words, calling Ferrell’s actions a grave threat to the community. “This is repulsive to me. I mean, that anyone would do this to an animal. And an animal’s like a child. I don’t know if you understand that or not,” the judge said.
He continued, “I can’t express the disappointment, shock, disgust that this crime has brought to me. I don’t know what could prompt anyone to want to eat a cat.”
The judge went on to reprimand Ferrell for the widespread embarrassment her actions caused. “You’ve embarrassed this county. You’ve embarrassed this nation. More importantly, you’ve embarrassed yourself,” he declared.
Many on social media were reminded of the time when the consumption of cats in Ohio was thought to be a hoax. Donald Trump famously mentioned the scandal during the only presidential debate between himself and Kamala Harris, with his famous, “They’re eating the cats!” comment spurring remixes in addition to outrage from liberals who believed the news to be false.
Whether the allegations were true or not was the subject to much debate. The Democrats and even the Republican Mayor of Springfield said there was no evidence – but residents had raised concerns about “pretty horrid” incidents involving pets and migrants six months before it became a national story. Regardless, the allegations drew attention to countless other issues that Haitian migrants brought to Springfield.
Despite Democrats believing they’d scored a victory over Trump’s remarks, the President-elect would go onto win Springfield and Ohio itself – marking the first time ever a Republican has won Springfield.
Sure seems like there was some truth to the “cat eating” allegations, doesn’t it? Surely the residents of Springfield know more than some hack on MSNBC or CNN.
And for most – this proves the liberal narrative was wrong the entire time.
Others noted PETA’s silence over the incident – which has previously compared eating fish to eating cats.
