The Democratic National Convention kicked off on Monday, August 19, but its arrival marked a disaster for the party’s copy editors (if they exist at all) with multiple references to President Joe Biden’s “second term” across the official platform.

Biden announced his decision to not stand for re-election four weeks and a day before the DNC began in Chicago, IL. His announcement, while still a landmark moment, was expected for some weeks prior with pressure mounting from senior Democrats calling him to stand aside.

In his statement posted on X, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor to take on Donald Trump at November’s election, which all-but confirmed her status as the Democrats’ presidential nominee.

Yet, despite four weeks of the Democrats promoting Harris as a movement for change from the administration she’s currently in, it appears some staffers within the party missed the memo.

Before a hasty editorial change, the DNC platform – which describes the events for the party’s quadrennial ceremony – featured five references to the administration’s plans for “Biden’s second term”. Such pledges include greater border security, research into AI, and his push for Supreme Court reform.

While perhaps just an oversight, the mishaps do not bode well for a Harris campaign which seeks to differentiate itself from the failings of the Biden administration.

Others made reference to the AI model ChatGPT.

Motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson has pledged to end so-called “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)” measures within its organization in a huge victory for conservatives. However, some remain unconvinced by the pledged changes.

The company follows in the footsteps of John Deere and Tractor Supply, who’ve both recently revoked DEI policies following a campaign by conservative commentator Robby Starbuck, who is now three for three in his campaigns against corporate DEI policies.

In a statement, Harley-Davidson said it was “saddened by the negativity on social media” in a reference to Starbuck’s campaign.

“It is critical to our business that we hire and retain the best talent and that all employees feel welcome,” the company explained. “That said, we have not operated a DEI function since April 2024, and we do not have a DEI function today. We do not have hiring quotas and we no longer have supplier diversity spend goals.” Naturally, most aren’t convinced about that.

It also announced plans to “focus exclusively on growing the sport of motorcycling” as a consumer brand, while pledging to no longer participate in Human Rights Campaign (HRC) scoring – a woke measure of how LGBTQ+-friendly a company is – going forward. Furthermore, Harley-Davidson added that employee training would be “absent of socially motivated content” effective immediately.

Starbuck – who told Fox News that he wanted to “bring down DEI and wokeism in corporate America” – shared the statement on his X profile to widespread support from social media users.

However, many were skeptical over the planned changes with the current CEO still in place.

Vice President Kamala Harris has been criticized by many throughout her month-old campaign so far for her benevolence of teleprompters.

In a stark contrast to Republican rival Donald Trump’s free-flowing speeches at campaign events, Harris has often read her pre-written speech – often twice in one day to different voters – from a script to ensure there are no errors akin to those which have become synonymous with her alleged President Joe Biden.

Her fondness for reading pre-planned material has come at a cost; Harris has been slammed for avoiding the media thus far, with her campaign rallies largely focusing on rejuvenating disgruntled Democrats who only planned to vote against Biden, rather than vote for Trump.

On Sunday, August 18, Harris spoke in Pennsylvania – a swing state which is crucial for her campaign if she is to be successful on election day. Addressing supporters in front of a poorly painted background, the Democrat once again jumbled her words as she spoke without a teleprompter.

“Our election is about understanding the importance of this beautiful country of ours in terms of what we stand for around the globe as a democracy,” she told supporters.  “As a democracy, we know there’s a duality to the nature of democracy. On the one hand, incredible strength when it is intact. What it does for its people to protect and defend their rights, their liberty, and their freedom. Incredibly strong. And incredibly fragile.”

And surely it was all unburdened by what has been.

Watch for yourself – and bonus points if you can figure out what she’s saying to say.

Reaction to the speech on social media suggested that many people did not have clue what Harris was on about.

Of course, it’s always worth remembering that Harris is one of two people who could possibly be the country’s next president.

The 2024 Democratic National Convention has prompted the party to return to its roots and reintroduce segregated caucus meetings.

Kicking off the DNC are meetings with caucuses for five separate non-White groups. These include caucuses for Democrats who are Black, Hispanic, AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander), Native American, and “Ethnic.” Surely by 2028 there will be some new racial identities added to the list.

Wouldn’t it be simply to just have an “everyone except white people” caucus at this point? Because that is effecively want they want.

Historically, Southern Democrats maintained a strong foothold over the national party’s policy towards segregation. The South often saw mandated segregation through law, while Northern states typically held a de facto system, particularly in schools, where races were divided despite the absence of legislation requiring a segregated system.

While there’s likely a reasoning for today’s DNC holding different caucuses for different voters, the optics for a party which claims to be progressive only portray a deep sense of irony.

It may also send a conflicting message to moderate voters.

Often times, a name can be pronounced multiple ways.

Just ask David Bowie, or Rihanna, or Ariana Grande, to name a few – tomato tomato.

Kamala Harris’ first name is no exception. The Vice President herself pronounces her name as “Kahm-a-lah”, and that’s how most of her supporters pronounce it too.

It’s not insulting, and it’s not naivety either to pronounce it slightly differently. Different people pronounce words differently, particularly when the subject in question is absent from the media landscape… but on CNN pronunciation is apparently proof of white supremacy and risks bringing back the era of Jim Crow.

No – really. That’s how insane these people are.

As Representative Nancy Mace repeatedly said Kamala’s name, insufferable Democratic strategist Keith Boykin condescendingly responded, “You had it right. You almost got it.”

“I will say Kamala’s name any way that I want to,” shot back Mace, as tension began to rise.

Notorious race baiter and Thesaurus enthusiast Michael Eric Dyson then chimed in to try to correct her, with Mace replying “I just did [supposedly mispronounce her name] and I’ll do it again.” Boykin then also tried to berate Mace and Dyson hysterically “informed” Mace that “You’re normalizing that kind of viciousness, man. You’re disrespecting the woman.”

Later, Dyson attempted to pretend he wasn’t calling Mace racist while accusing her of not caring about the humanity of black people because she mispronounced a name. “This congresswoman is a wonderful human being,” said Dyson. “But when you disrespect Kamala Harris by saying you will call her whatever you want, I know you don’t intend it to be that way, that’s the history and legacy of white disregard for the humanity of Black people.”

And he’s dead serious.

Former and future President Donald Trump thanked God for the intervention which saved his life during the assassination attempt in Butler, PA, on July 13.

The infamous events saw shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks narrowly miss the Republican’s head in the shooting from around 130 yards away. Quite remarkably, Trump turned his head at the right moment as he looked towards a television screen, causing the bullet to clip his right ear.

Trump has previously praised divine intervention for the head swivel which ultimately saved his life – something which arose again during his Bedminster press conference on Thursday.

“Have you put much thought into why God save your life? As in, for what purpose has he been shielding and protecting you,” Trump was asked by a reporter.

Describing his near-miss as “a miracle”, Trump referred to the graph regarding the number of illegal immigrants under President Joe Biden’s administration, adding that it was one he uses “less than 20% of the time at the end of the speech.”

“I just talked about it, and I moved to my right, turned sharply to my right, ping!” Trump explained. “And if I didn’t do that, I [wouldn’t be] here with you.

“It’s a miracle, and God has something to do with it. And maybe it’s [because] we want to save the world. This world is going down. This world is going down,” the former president reiterated to cheers from the crowd.”

Trump added that his sons Eric and Don Jr. compared the shooter to missing a “one-foot putt” in golf.

The response resonated strongly with Christian supporters of the Republican nominee.

Others praised Trump’s handling of the press conference.

Kamala Harris has done a fantastic job of promoting herself without unveiling a single policy in the campaign so far.

Since being made the de facto nominee for the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision not to stand for re-election, Harris has been on a whistlestop tour of the United States. It’s one which has seen little face-to-face scrutiny with the media while the Vice President promises change from an administration which she is an integral part of.

Harris’ campaign events have provided little insight into what she would do if elected on November 5. Unfortunately, nor does her website.

Aside from regular reminders to give your hard-earned money to her campaign and requests to hand over your email address, the website features little substance. There are introductory articles on Harris and running mate Tim Walz, as well as a store if you wish to spend $22 on a cup with Harris’ name on it. There’s also an events page, so you can plan a quick getaway if the campaign comes to your town for your vote.

Yet, much like her campaign, there’s not a single mention of any policy.

Rejoice, though! There are at least nine different pronouns you can identify with if you want to jump on the bandwagon, as commentator Blaire White pointed out:

Many on social media were perplexed by the vast quantities of pronouns.

Commentator Brianna Wu, who is rumored to be transgender, said that beyond “they/them,” the pronoun saga was “stupid.”

Other users on social media said the charade was a perfect metaphor for Harris’ campaign.

Controversial LGBTQ(Whatever) TikTok influencer Jeffrey Marsh, who previously posted videos encouraging children to cut contact with their parents, has been invited to the Democratic National Convention.

The four-day convention in Chicago, IL, will be the moment Vice President Kamala Harris is officially nominated as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee to face Republican Donald Trump.

The DNC usually invites “featured guests” to attend the festivities in exchange for promotional material on social media, and Marsh is no exception.

Known for his controversial posts on TikTok, one of Marsh’s clips was reshared by the Libs of TikTok account in which he describes three ways to disrespect your elders.

In the minute-long clip, Marsh encourages those “struggling with a narcissistic parent or a bullying boss at work” to “play innocent” by acting confused. He also encourages kids to “feel no guilt” and “limit contact” with their parents in a dispute.

Many on social media noted that the Democrats’ decision to invite Marsh indicated the crowd it wishes to attract to the DNC.

Another user noted the $20,000 payment to influencers attending the convention.

One commenter described the situation perfectly.

The total cost of illegal immigration under President Joe Biden’s administration would be equivalent to the gross domestic product of the 36th largest economy in the world, according to a report from late last year that’s now getting attention on social media.

Illegal immigration under President Joe Biden’s administration has cost the country an estimated $451 billion per year, according to a report released by House Republicans in November 2023.

The 50-page report, which was the fourth interim report on Department for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ handling of the border crisis, highlights that over 3.8 million illegal immigrants have entered the country since Biden took office in January 2021.

Taxpayer dollars have accounted for costs incurred for healthcare, education, housing, and enforcement to accommodate the up to 130+ million illegal aliens currently in the country.

“Every day, millions of American taxpayer dollars are spent on costs directly associated with illegal immigration and the unprecedented crisis at the Southwest border sparked by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ policies,” the House Homeland Security Committee interim report states. “Only a small fraction is ever recouped from the taxes paid by illegal aliens, with the rest falling on the shoulders of American citizens and lawful residents.”

The report’s relevance remains with the current political landscape. Vice President Kamala Harris is the Democratic Party’s nominee for the upcoming presidential election, although she has remained quiet on her disastrous record as Border Czar, which some in the media have tried to hide.

Many on social media were in disbelief at the figure.

Others considered the implications for the election.

MSNBC broadcaster Joy Reid is renowned for her level-headed politically neutral stances and her advocacy of a united political future where differences can be settled with calm, rational debate.

Just kidding!

Reid has come under fire in recent months with her lengthy TikTok rants even attracting the attention of X owner Elon Musk.

On Wednesday, August 14, Reid continued with her divisive rhetoric in a segment called “Project 2025 Exposed: The Plot to Undermine Black Farmers.” Fewer than 2% of farmers are African-American, far below their share of the U.S. population (at 13%).

“In Project 2025, folks like [Stephen] Miller, [J.D.] Vance, and [Donald] Trump want to nationalize their long-term goal of putting a stop to what they call anti-White racism,” she said on her broadcast. “It’s just another way of saying, ‘we’re sick of America being held accountable for actual racism.’”

The difference between anti-White racism and “actual” racism remains unclear.

“Under Project 2025, the Department of Justice would play the central role in executing their national policy of reversing racial progress,” Reid continued, further fearmongering about a “Project” that Trump has distanced himself from and never had any affiliation with. “They would force the DoJ’s civil rights division – which is responsible for enforcing federal statutes that prohibit discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, or national origin – to refocus, moving away from what they call affirmative discrimination, and ensure lawfulness, which essentially means protecting the people who’ve had access and opportunity all along.”

Needless to say, social media saw through Reid’s race-baiting rant, and offered their own perspectives instead.

Others noted that ending racism is only bad if you career depends on its existence.
