Antifa Officially Designated Domestic Terrorists Under Trump Executive Action

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order officially designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, representing the most significant federal action against the group to date.

The order describes Antifa as a “militarist, anarchist enterprise” whose stated goal is to undermine and overthrow the United States government and law enforcement.

According to the text, the group has organized campaigns of violence nationwide, including riots, assaults on officers, armed standoffs, and intimidation of political figures.

It further alleges that Antifa recruits and radicalizes young Americans while concealing its funding sources and shielding the identities of its members.

“Antifa recruits, trains, and radicalizes young Americans to engage in this violence and suppression of political activity,” the executive order states.

By designating Antifa a domestic terrorist organization, the order instructs federal departments and agencies to use all available legal authorities to “investigate, disrupt, and dismantle any and all illegal operations.”

It also calls for prosecuting individuals and organizations accused of providing financial or material support to Antifa operations.

The measure clarifies that its implementation must remain consistent with existing federal law and does not create new legal rights or enforcement avenues against the government itself.

The order directs that it be published in the Federal Register.

Trump and Republican leaders have long argued that Antifa represents a national security threat.

During his first term in office, Trump frequently criticized the group for its role in violent demonstrations.

His administration has since cataloged multiple incidents that officials say highlight the urgency of federal action.

The White House release accompanying the order highlighted several recent cases of Antifa-related violence:

  • In July 2025, Antifa members ambushed officers at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Alvarado, Texas. After defacing vehicles with anti-ICE graffiti — including phrases such as “ICE pig” and “F— you pigs” — attackers lured officers from the building and opened fire, striking one officer in the neck.
  • Later that month, Antifa-affiliated rioters attacked federal agents at an ICE facility in Portland, Oregon. Officers who had been guarding the facility for weeks were assaulted with kicks, punches, and what officials described as an “incendiary device.”
  • In February 2024, a transgender Antifa member detonated an explosive device outside the office of Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall. The attacker reportedly left behind stickers with Antifa slogans and anarchist symbols.

The administration’s summary of events argues that these incidents demonstrate a pattern of coordinated violence by Antifa cells across the country.

The executive order comes as part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to expand federal tools to counter domestic extremism.

Officials emphasized that while existing laws already allow prosecution of individuals for specific crimes, the formal designation of Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization ensures that federal agencies can prioritize investigations into the group’s activities and disrupt its funding networks.

The White House said a complete list of documented incidents linked to Antifa has been made available on its official website.

The move signals a heightened focus on combating organized domestic extremist networks, with the administration stating that agencies are now expected to treat Antifa with the same urgency as other threats to national security.
