Democrats Sink to Near Zero in New Gallup Poll, They’re Just Not Satisfied

A new Gallup survey released this week highlights a record level of partisan division over the direction of the United States, with satisfaction among Republicans at its highest point in years while satisfaction among Democrats has dropped to near zero.

According to Gallup, 76 percent of Republicans say they are satisfied with the way things are going in the country.

By contrast, just 0.4 percent of Democrats expressed satisfaction — a figure that rounds down to zero in Gallup’s reporting.

The disparity between the two parties stands at 76 percentage points, the largest gap ever recorded by the polling organization on this measure.

Gallup noted that while the figure represents a new high in partisan division, it is consistent with a trend observed throughout 2025.

Earlier this year, the gap measured 75 points in May and 74 points in both March and July.

“Partisanship is also at a peak on this metric, with 76% of Republicans saying they are satisfied with the direction of the country versus less than 1% of Democrats. The resulting 76-point gap is the highest Gallup has recorded on this measure, although not substantially different from a 75-point gap in May and 74 points in March and July. Before this year, the parties had differed by more than 70 points on satisfaction only once, in October 2004 before that year’s presidential election,” Gallup reported.

The numbers reflect the extent to which political attitudes toward the country’s trajectory are shaped by President Donald Trump’s policies in his second term.

While Republicans overwhelmingly approve of the administration’s direction, Democrats have expressed sharp disapproval.

The Trump administration has moved forward on several major policy initiatives since the start of the second term.

Among them are expanded border enforcement measures that federal officials say have significantly reduced illegal border crossings, an effort that has included mass deportations and strengthened coordination with state governments.

Other actions have included cuts to federal spending on programs identified by the administration as duplicative or nonessential.

Billions of dollars have been reallocated through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which was created to identify areas of waste and redirect funds.

The administration has also moved to roll back diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs across federal agencies, a step that officials say will streamline operations and reduce costs.

In addition, President Trump has issued pardons to individuals convicted in connection with the events of January 6, 2021, describing the move as part of an effort to promote fairness in sentencing and to close a contentious chapter in national politics.

These actions have been broadly welcomed among Republican voters, contributing to the high levels of satisfaction reflected in Gallup’s findings.

By contrast, Democrats have consistently expressed opposition to the administration’s policy direction, accounting for the record-low satisfaction levels reported in the survey.

The Gallup poll underscores the sharp divisions that continue to define American politics.

While partisan gaps in national satisfaction have existed in past administrations, the current difference between Republicans and Democrats is the largest recorded since Gallup began measuring the question.

With the partisan divide at record levels, Gallup’s data suggests that attitudes about the country’s direction remain deeply polarized along party lines, with President Trump’s agenda continuing to shape the political landscape in his second term.
